Sometimes you don't need the video at all — just the still image Twitch or Kick generated as the clip's cover. That's useful for making a custom thumbnail for your own edit, referencing a specific moment in a Discord post, or building cover art for a compilation without re-exporting a frame yourself in a video editor.
Where thumbnails actually come from
When a clip is created, both Twitch and Kick automatically pull a still frame from partway through it to use as the preview image you see before pressing play. It's generated once, at the moment the clip is made, and stays fixed after that — it's not something that updates or changes later.
Where to find the download option
Resolve any clip on the Single Clip tab the normal way — paste the link, let it load. Once it loads, look at the small thumbnail image next to the clip's title. You'll see two tiny icons sitting in its corner.
Open vs. Download
One icon opens the thumbnail at full size in a new browser tab, useful if you just want to look at it closely, or if you'd rather right-click and save it yourself through your browser's own menu. The other icon downloads it directly as a JPG file with one click, no extra steps.
What people actually use thumbnails for
A few common cases: content creators grabbing a cover image for a video they're editing without needing to scrub through footage for a frame; people wanting a quick visual reference to drop into a group chat or Discord server alongside a clip link; and archivists cataloging highlights who want a lightweight visual index without storing full video files for every entry.
Works in Bulk Download too
If you're browsing a streamer's recent clips on the Bulk Download tab, every card in the grid has the same two icons — handy if you're putting together a set of thumbnails from several clips at once rather than resolving them one at a time.
A related option: profile pictures and banners
If it's a streamer's avatar or channel banner you're after rather than a clip thumbnail, the Streamer Info tab has its own dedicated download buttons for those images, saved at the largest size the platform provides.
